Our tips are general, please do not take our tips as an alternative to visiting a professional, as professionals have further knowledge on car issues.

ABS System

Your ABS (anti-lock braking system) tells you when your anti-lock braking system is no longer working. In order for a car to be driven safely, the anti-lock braking system needs to be in full working order. A brake shouldn’t lock once it has been used and that is where the anti-lock braking system helps to ensure the brakes don’t lock and the car can be driven safely.

Engine Warning Light

If your engine warning light suddenly appears then unfortunately it is not a good sign. If the light shines amber it usually means a fault with the exhaust emissions and you should be able to drive home safely but you will need to book your car in with your local garage as soon as you can. It is also important to note that an amber light with additional lines means you need to drive with caution to the nearest garage, whilst a red light means there is a serious fault, so stop driving the vehicle and you will need to call a breakdown service as soon as possible.

Airbag Warning Light

Your airbag warning light will come on if there’s a problem with your airbags or even the way your seatbelts work. The warning light will usually mean your airbag will need to be reset or that there’s an issue with the battery or the airbag system as a whole. As soon as you see the light turn on, you will need to either pull over or drive straight to the nearest garage.

If you are involved in a car accident whilst your warning light is shining, your airbags will not open for you and your passengers, which could be fatal, so you really shouldn’t drive whilst it is on.

This could be because of a number of issues, a faulty wire could cause the problem and It could also mean your vehicle may overheat and this could be life-threatening.

Oil Pressure Warning Light

If the Oil pressure light comes on, it means there is an issue with the oil. It is not a good idea to drive with this warning light on because a lack of oil will eventually wear your car’s engine down. You can drive to get it fixed, but it is not good to continuously drive with the warning light on.
